The 38th meeting of the European Congress for the Treatment and Research Into Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS) took place in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, between the 26th and 28th of October, 2022.

The ECTRIMS Podcast

MStranslate was lucky enough to attend this meeting in person.  Significantly, our co-founder – Brett Drummond – was also chosen to host the official ECTRIMS Podcast. In this podcast series, Brett sat down with special guests to discuss their congress highlights and thoughts on the latest multiple sclerosis research presented on each day of the conference.

On Day 1, the special guest on The ECTRIMS Podcast was Professor Brenda Banwell (University of Pennsylvania, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia). Brenda was the keynote speaker at the meeting, giving the prestigious ECTRIMS Lecture. In this first episode of the podcast, Brenda talked to Brett about her emotional journey over the past 20 years conducting research into paediatric multiple sclerosis. Following this, Brenda also chatted about the research highlights that particularly impressed her, especially a real world observational study that compared the outcomes for people living with MS that received either autologous haematopoeitic stem cell transplant or high-efficacy therapies. You can hear this episode here.

On Day 2, The ECTRIMS Podcast featured Dr Tim Coetzee (Chief Advocacy, Services and Science Officer at the National MS Society). Being in a position that interacts with so many different areas of the MS community, Tim was uniquely placed to provide a fascinating perspective on the research presented on the second day at ECTRIMS.  In this episode, Tim and Brett discussed research sessions on lifestyle interventions (primarily exercise and diet) and progressive MS.  Through this conversation, Tim continually referred back to how the studies that were presented impact on people living with multiple sclerosis. This episode is certainly not to be missed and you can listen to it here.

On the last day of the conference, Brett was joined by a very special guest, Professor Mar Tintore, the incoming ECTRIMS President and a prominent neurologist from the Centre d’Esclerosi Múltiple de Catalunya.  In this wide-ranging interview, Mar shared her research highlights from the entire meeting, covering topics such as pregnancy, clinical trials and much more. Mar also shared the vision for ECTRIMS 365, a new commitment from ECTRIMS to communicate regularly throughout the year – ensuring that research highlights and discussions continue between conferences. This fantastic episode can be listened to here.

Stay tuned to The ECTRIMS Podcast throughout the remainder of this year and 2023, as more episodes hosted by Brett will be released.  It can be found on all major podcast platforms, including Spotify and Apple.

Daily Summary Videos

Like in 2019, when the ECTRIMS Congress was held in Stockholm, Sweden, Brett was joined at the meeting by Dr Travis Stiles, CEO of Novoron Bioscience and valued member of the MStranslate team.  At the end of each day, Brett and Travis once again filmed videos in which they shared and discussed insights from the conference presentations they had attended.  Each of these daily summaries can be watched below.
